As of today, Trade Me have launched a refresh of their website’s home page. Key changes include simplifying the main category browser, removing ‘Services’, ‘Travel’ and ‘GiftFinder’ and adding colour tags for ‘Categories’, ‘Jobs’, ‘Motors’ and ‘Property’.
On top of that, the original listings of ‘New on Trade Me’ and ‘Featured Listings’ have been replaced with colour-coded Featured Listings from each of those main categories along with more graphical sections for Trade Me Property and FindSomeone. Cool Auctions now also appear within the main body area and display a few listings at a time, rather than one-by-one.
Finally, the main home page display ad has been raised and now cleverly displays directly under the user controls for Watchlist, Favourites, Cart, Log in, etc. Somewhere which should attract a lot of eyeballs.
Overall, it’s a good step in the right direction (and a long over-due one) for New Zealand’s most popular home-grown website. Cleaner and more visually appealing. It should also help Trade Me draw more clicks on home page banner ads. It’ll be interesting to see if changes are in store for the listing pages themselves.
