Free Online Marketing Courses

Free Online Courses for Digital Marketing

During the COVID-19 lockdown, most marketers are working from home. Given the largely digital/cloud-based nature of our roles, we’re probably amongst the best placed of our business’ various departments to be able to carry on our work.

Still, it’s fair to say that the level of business across New Zealand, and many other countries, is significantly reduced right now.

One way that we can fill our time is to develop our skills with online-based learning during the shutdown period so that when we do go back to the office, we do in an even better position to hit the ground running and bring new opportunities to our businesses.

The good news is that there are quite a few free online courses available for us, including courses by globally renowned providers that provide recognised certifications at the end of the course.

I’ve compiled a few of these online learning resources below.

These certificates can often be exported as a PDF and can be added to the ‘licenses and certifications’ area of your LinkedIn profile (see mine for how they display). This section allows you to search for the official issuing organisation when adding the certification.

Facebook Blueprint

Facebook Blueprint Online Courses

Facebook Blueprint is Facebook’s official training resource for online advertising. Many of the courses can be applied to more than just Facebook, and all of the courses are free.

The courses cover Facebook’s range of platforms, from Facebook itself to Messenger, Instagram, and WhatsApp. Each course is nicely put together and easy to follow. Courses are then followed by exams which provide you with a variety of Blueprint Certificates.

“Facebook Blueprint Certification exams help you stand out in your field. Facebook awards credentials to individuals who demonstrate advanced-level proficiency in various aspects of digital marketing with Facebook products.”

Login is via your Facebook Profile. Get started on desktop or you could check out their Android App (Early Access). I haven’t tried that yet; good luck!

HubSpot Academy

Hubspot Academy Training Courses

HubSpot Academy offers a comprehensive range of courses for marketers and has a less formal feel than Facebook and Google’s equivalents and feels more engaging. It’s a good place to start for beginners but can take you through to a fairly advanced level.

All courses are presented with the use of easy-to-understand videos and exams provide you with certifications that can be featured on LinkedIn.

HubSpot itself has long been a global leader in the marketing world. At its core, it’s a powerful CRM platform that offers some pretty sweet customer relations tools for marketers and sales professionals. The Academy division is there to allow marketers to up-skill and better use the platform that HubSpot provides, BUT the skills you can learn are applicable to many aspects of marketing.

From quick, practical courses to comprehensive certifications, learn everything you need to know about the most sought-after business skills.

At time of writing, the HubSpot Academy offers 55 courses within categories from Marketing and Sales to Design, Startups, and more. The courses typically include a few lessons with times ranging from 5 to 30 minutes, and overall course recommended times vary from one to three hours.

It’s been a while since I was in there (that’s about to change!) but I do remember completing a great Email Marketing course and an Inbound Digital Marketing course via HubSpot.

You’ll need to create a profile and an account, including a business name, to get started. But this and all courses are free.

Get stuck in here, and you can also find HubSpot’s lessons on YouTube.

Google Skillshop via Exceed LMS

Google Skillshop Online Learning

Google’s ‘Skillshop’ is provided by Exceed LMS (Learning Management System) which also provides training for the likes of Amazon. Google provides a range of courses, with the most common and obvious categories being Google Ads; covering Search, Display, Video, Shopping and Measurement, as well as Google Analytics Academy.

Google’s certifications are widely recognised by marketing agencies and are perhaps more easily recognised by small to medium employers when compared to the likes of HubSpot.

You can get started via their dashboard here, or click here to filter all activities by length, difficulty, and even whether the lessons allows you to ‘earn an award’.

WordStream

WordStream Online Courses

I’ll be honest, while I’ve seen their content around the place, I’ve only recently taken a look at WordStreams online training options. At first glance, it looks like they have heaps of free courses here, largely focusing on PPC (pay-per-click advertising). Resources include templates, webinars and whitepapers.

I’m sure I’ll have a look through their courses in the next few weeks. Check them out for yourselves here.

Moz Academy

MOZ Free Online Courses

‘Moz’ is a name well known to those who are skilled in Search Engine Optimisation (SEO), SEO being the art of optimising online content so that it ranks well in search engines.

Originally called SEOMoz and founded by Rand Fishkin, the company offers a huge wealth of SEO knowledge as well as SEO tools such as the MozBar extension for Chrome that allows you to analyses a webpage for SEO purposes.

Moz has taught me a lot over the years and helped me add a skill to my repertoire that is actually quite rare amongst marketers, and even many marketing agencies. One reason for this is that advertising is sexy; it’s highly visual and provides fast results with big numbers, so is a great way for agencies to impress their clients and win awards. Meanwhile, it takes much longer to see the results of SEO, and yet once set up properly and with a little ongoing maintenance, SEO can provide far more organic results than advertising, allowing you to reap the rewards over many months without paying for every click.

Moz have created their own Academy with 13 paid courses to make you an SEO Master, from SEO Fundamentals and Keyword Research to Technical SEO Audits and even Finding Potential SEO Clients. The options include an ‘SEO Essentials Certificate’ on completion of a selection of six courses.

Free for a limited time

While originally ranging from $49 to $595, following the COVID-19 pandemic, Moz have made their courses available for free. Just sign-up and use the promo code ‘wegotthis‘. I will certainly be making the most of this to brush up on some skills over the coming weeks.

Discover the Moz Academy here.
